AWS Weekly Roundup Featuring Aurora DSQL, FSx, AI on EKS, and Updates (June 2, 2025)

Discover the latest advancements from AWS this week, bringing powerful new capabilities to your cloud infrastructure.

A significant highlight is the introduction of Direct SQL (DSQL) for Amazon Aurora, specifically supporting PostgreSQL-compatible edition. This feature allows developers and database administrators to directly query data stored in Amazon S3 from their Aurora database, simplifying analytics and reporting workflows by eliminating the need for complex data movement. It enables unified querying across operational data in Aurora and data lakes in S3, enhancing efficiency and unlocking new data insights.

Amazon FSx also received key updates, improving file storage options. FSx for NetApp ONTAP introduced enhanced features for managing and optimizing storage performance and cost, including improved support for file system operations and data management tools. Additionally, updates to other FSx options, like FSx for Lustre and FSx for Windows File Server, continue to provide high-performance and feature-rich file system solutions tailored for specific workloads, from high-performance computing to enterprise applications.

Bringing Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads closer to container orchestration, new capabilities for running AI on Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) were announced. These updates facilitate the deployment and scaling of machine learning inference and training jobs on Kubernetes clusters. This includes better integration with underlying hardware accelerators and streamlined management tools, making it easier for organizations to leverage the power of AI within their containerized environments on AWS.

Beyond these major announcements, AWS rolled out various other service enhancements. These include updates to management tools, improving visibility and control over cloud resources, and advancements in networking services for better performance and security. Developers will find new features in developer tools designed to accelerate application building and deployment. These continuous improvements across the platform underscore AWS’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and evolving cloud ecosystem for a wide range of applications and use cases. Stay informed to leverage these powerful updates for your cloud strategy.
