Esse Health data breach affects 263,000

An independent physician group serving the St. Louis metropolitan area recently experienced a significant data security incident. This event has potentially impacted approximately 263,000 patients.

The unauthorized access to the organization’s network systems may have exposed sensitive patient information. Data potentially compromised includes patient names, dates of birth, addresses, medical record numbers, health insurance details, diagnosis information, clinical data, and in some instances, Social Security numbers.

Upon discovering the activity, the organization promptly launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Steps were taken to secure their systems and assess the information involved.

Affected individuals are being notified about the incident. As a protective measure, the organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to eligible individuals whose Social Security numbers may have been involved. They are also reviewing and enhancing their security protocols to help prevent future occurrences.
