FiberLight, a premier builder and operator of custom, high-capacity fiber optic networks, has announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Metro Fiber Networks (MFN). This strategic move is designed to significantly expand FiberLight’s network capabilities and geographic reach, particularly in crucial metropolitan areas.
Metro Fiber Networks operates a substantial fiber network primarily located within New York City. Their infrastructure includes roughly 1,200 route miles and provides connectivity to approximately 500 enterprise buildings. By bringing MFN’s assets under the FiberLight umbrella, the company will gain immediate, deep network density in a highly competitive and connectivity-hungry market.
The acquisition is seen as a critical step to accelerate FiberLight’s ongoing growth strategy. It is expected to enhance the company’s ability to deliver robust, high-performance network solutions tailored for enterprise and wholesale customers. The integration of MFN’s network assets will allow FiberLight to offer more pervasive and scalable options for businesses needing reliable, low-latency connectivity for essential services like cloud access, data center interconnections, and dedicated private networks.
Completion of the deal is anticipated to occur in the third quarter of 2024. The finalization is contingent upon fulfilling standard closing conditions, which include obtaining necessary regulatory approvals. Both FiberLight and Metro Fiber Networks are working to ensure a seamless transition process, aimed at smoothly integrating MFN’s operations and network infrastructure into FiberLight’s existing framework.
This transaction highlights the current trend of consolidation within the fiber optic network industry, as providers seek to gain scale and broaden their footprints. For FiberLight, acquiring MFN marks a notable advancement in solidifying its standing as a leading provider of advanced fiber network services nationwide, addressing the rising demand for sophisticated connectivity solutions.
